What is a storage auction?
Storage auctions are a normal part of running a self storage facility. When a lease ends or a tenant stops paying, we eventually need to clear the unit so it's available for someone who needs the space. Rather than sell things piece by piece, the whole unit gets bid on as one lot. Auctions are open to the public and run online, so anyone in the area can take part from home. The only time you need to come out to the facility is to pick up what you won.
How our auctions work
Picking up your unit
We run our auctions through StorageTreasures, an online platform where you register, find the Stuff Self Storage location hosting the sale, and place your bids. Setting up an account requires a card on file to verify you, but all payment happens at the facility itself and is cash only. Each auction runs for a set window, and the highest bidder when time runs out wins. Before an auction goes live, we photograph the contents of the unit so you can see what's inside. Those photos are what you're bidding on. What you see is what you get. The units stay sealed throughout, so no one visits or opens them ahead of time.
Won the auction? Here's what happens next. You'll have 48 hours to come by during office hours and clear out the unit. We ask for a $100 deposit when you arrive, returned once the unit is completely emptied. Payment and deposit are cash only. You take everything with you, including anything you don't want. We can't dispose of auctioned items at the facility, so plan to haul it all.
Auctions & Events
Ready to find a deal? From time to time we hold storage auctions at Stuff Self Storage, where the entire contents of an abandoned unit go up for bidding. You might walk away with furniture, tools, household goods, and every now and then something genuinely worth holding onto.
Here's how our auctions work so you know what to expect going in.
Good to know before you bid
Everything has to be picked up within the 48 hour window. If a unit isn't cleared on time, we may remove the contents and you could lose the ability to bid with us going forward. Once you've claimed a unit, everything in it is your responsibility, so if you come across anything dangerous or illegal, stop and let us know right away. We reserve the right to refuse any bid, and all sales may be suspended at our discretion.
Auctions work out well on both ends: we free up space for the next tenant, and you get a shot at a whole unit's worth of belongings, often for well under what it would cost new. Questions? Reach out to the location running the auction and we'll walk you through it.
